Tai Chi
Tai Chi is an exercise program which incorporates a form of mindful movement with a sophisticated system of bio-mechanical movement principles.
Tai Chi promotes a deeper level of relaxation and body awareness in daily life, whilst strengthening the body's stabilising muscles and improving balance.
All Tai Chi exercises require conscious attention to a variety of physiological processes, as well as sensing the body's relationship to gravitational pull during stillness and movement. This mindful element to training has a calming effect on the mind, and can offer respite from thought habits such as negative ruminations that lead to anxiety and depression.
Some people associate learning Tai Chi with trying to follow along with a complex series of movements. However, the most essential therapeutic benefits of Tai Chi exercise can be obtained in simpler, stationary movement exercises known as 'silk reeling' and standing meditations known as 'Zhan Zhuang'. Longer sequences of movements (routines) can be learned once the student has a confident understanding of the principles of movement and mindfulness that are at the heart of Tai Chi practice.
Coach Damien teaches the Chen family system of Tai Chi with a focus on building solid foundation skills and understanding.
